In today's @chargedtech I wrote a paragraph-by-paragraph review of why Apple's response to Spotify, and how it says nothing of substance https://t.co/iBmW6eUqNg

Apple replying to Spotify claims regarding the AppStore business model is something completely new. The tone and info shared in the press release has also no precedent. Apple received hundreds or thousands of similar claims during these 10 years https://t.co/m7W194pqQ8

Good day, sir. You have been paying this 30% Apple tax for years.
— Shira Ovide (@ShiraOvide) March 14, 2019
So, a new personal theory: Spotify wants to raise prices significantly, BUT blame it on Apple. https://t.co/zPbE9bbupr pic.twitter.com/13FlqJMorY
Apple hits back. Basically calling Spotify’s claims as fake news (misinformation). https://t.co/XLlTNTNXRd
— Ben Bajarin (@BenBajarin) March 15, 2019
Spotify’s counterargument should be “we contribute a popular service that makes iPhones appealing to Apple’s customers” https://t.co/SW3RXcMKnA

When Apple bans links to purchase subscriptions, in apps like Spotify and Netflix, it just creates a more frustrating user experience that's more expensive.
— Robert Gaal (@robertgaal) March 15, 2019
This is counter to the Apple I know and love. As your customer and App Store developer, I hope you reconsider. https://t.co/u2EIgux6Sg
Here's some context to the Spotify/Apple antitrust fiasco. App publishers have long complained about Apple's 30% tax, leveraging its own platform to promote its own apps, and all the rest of it. (Thread, sorry)

This part from Apple's response to Spotify is somewhat misleading. There is no Siri domain for music playback that Spotify (or others) can use.
— Federico Viticci (@viticci) March 15, 2019
There are Siri shortcuts, which Spotify could add, but the experience is FAR from the native integration Apple Music has. pic.twitter.com/JgQO1mYJcD
Apple put out a response to Spotify’s antitrust campaign today, and it is just extremely weird. Especially this part, where they repeat this inaccurate “suing songwriters” talking point that honestly makes no sense. https://t.co/Q29f86OAdEhttps://t.co/j8qJBOpqCg pic.twitter.com/Cch4wJlyek

Listen, Spotify would not be where they are today if iTunes (Apple) had fixed their UI years ago, it is the most non-Apple, Apple product they have.
— Pete ⚡️ (@petehalvorsen) March 15, 2019
This shortfall opened the door for Spotify, Pandora and Rdio (RIP) to find homes. https://t.co/9z51OsRble

The entire thing is 'whataboutism' trying to deflect back to Spotify. Apple opens by talking about how it's "helped" artists with iTunes... by conveniently leaving out all of the bad bits pic.twitter.com/XVFbCcnXsG

Apple sidesteps one of the biggest problems: it provides the only way to pay on iOS. Mentioning other forms of payment is banned.
— Owen Williams ⚡ (@ow) March 15, 2019
ALSO: Spotify doesn't use Google Play APIs on Android. It pops over a web view using Stripe to pay. Way more work, but 2.9% vs 30%. pic.twitter.com/FiRWrPDHS2
Last thing: Apple repeatedly says that what Spotify is doing is "wrong" but then just goes ahead and makes provably untrue statements up - in order to make its approach look better, even though Apple has historically done the EXACT SAME THING TO CREATORS. pic.twitter.com/chxvlTdBYW
