The M2 MacBook Air review: A new era that's just righthttps://t.co/BWeEni25Qr
— Macworld (@macworld) July 14, 2022
There is a difference between saying "the performance of these M2 based systems for real world activities are even faster" and "the performance of the SSD for real world activities is even faster."
— Joe Rossignol (@rsgnl) July 14, 2022
Apple's new M2 MacBook Air is the start of a whole new Air-a, says @dcseifert. It has a much-improved screen and camera, and solid battery life / performance. Full review here: https://t.co/rC70GpazvA pic.twitter.com/ZSRvjA2BEX
— Tom Warren (@tomwarren) July 14, 2022
So the MacBook Air M2 is pretty good https://t.co/Sax6LCOwoU
— Devindra Hardawar (@Devindra) July 14, 2022
Slightly disappointed that the new M2 MacBook Air doesn’t have the “MacBook Air” branding stamped on the bottom unlike the 14”/16” MacBook Pro. (H/t to @dcseifert) https://t.co/xLNXnH1HII pic.twitter.com/sC8ieh1AMJ

You can already see the edges around the USB-C ports in iJustine’s video of the midnight Air turning silver… 😬 pic.twitter.com/ZTPqXZltlN
— Parker Ortolani (@ParkerOrtolani) July 14, 2022
This is what I suspected. If they’re having trouble cooling the M2 with the old MacBook Pro design, how could it ever work in an even thinner, fan-less chassis? https://t.co/a2FszmhYIQ
— Maximilian Mackh (@mmackh) July 14, 2022
It's honestly a complete joke that Apple doesn't give review units to @SnazzyQ
— Joe Rossignol (@rsgnl) July 14, 2022
The M2 MacBook Air seems great overall, but @dcseifert found the M2 performance story is complicated https://t.co/YEtyVF8GKs

— Mark Spoonauer (@mspoonauer) July 14, 2022
Honestly, it kinda sucks that the new M2 MacBook Air looks like an old 13-inch MacBook Pro. The old Air design was so iconic. Well, at least the new midnight color looks great. pic.twitter.com/ldFAedRuHo
— Filipe Espósito (@filipeesposito) July 14, 2022
It's an new era for the MacBook Air, but the M2 model is a fine successor to a classic design. My review: https://t.co/7XkgPUoXJl
— Jason Snell (@jsnell) July 14, 2022
I'm not jumping to any extremes here. The switch to a single NAND chip in the base 256GB model is a reason to avoid the base model if you want the fastest SSD speeds possible. Simple. I'm not saying oh my gosh the M2 MacBook Air is trash — it seems like a pretty awesome machine.
— Joe Rossignol (@rsgnl) July 14, 2022
The thing is everyone does that so it is a level playing field in that respect. There's no unfair advantage.
— Steven Sinofsky (@stevesi) July 14, 2022
i don’t think the 13-inch MacBook Pro or the base model M2 Air should exist.
— dan 'thoughtful grunge' seifert (@dcseifert) July 14, 2022
so when you ignore those as you should, Apple’s laptop line up clears up a bit:
$1000: M1 Air
$1500: M2 Air
$2000: MBP 14
$2500: MBP 16
and then you configure w/in those tiers per prefs/needs
The commenters aren't wrong. Apple PR would never pay money for reviews but there's lots of ways to influence the influencers. Access to hardware and execs translate directly to the bottom line for those blessed.

— Ian Zelbo (@ianzelbo) July 14, 2022
Apple's M2-based MacBook Air gets a rare editor's choice from @danackerman for all-round utility. But the bare minimum I'd get — 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD — costs $1600. This is not an entry-level machine, and the cheapest $1200 config also is pricey. https://t.co/D3m3bW9EZh
— Stephen Shankland (@stshank) July 14, 2022
Me: The M2 MacBook Pro severe thermal throttling makes me worried about the M2 Air.

Others: “You’re wrong! You Apple hater! You’re being too negative! M2 Air will be fine.”

💜 I’ve gone from being hopeful about getting them, to being skeptical, to being pessimistic about it ever happening, to just literally not even thinking about it haha. It’s now entered “impossible” territory for me. Luckily I have a good audience that watches “late” reviews.
— Quinn Nelson (@SnazzyQ) July 14, 2022
The new M2 chip was...moderately faster than the M1. But the M2 is nowhere near as powerful as the M1 Pro, and M1 Max. The Apple Silicon chip naming conventions are already confusing and we're only on the second generation. pic.twitter.com/5wxMjGcxw4

Is it my imagination, or have the reviews of Apple's new M2-based MBA been less than stellar? https://t.co/vZCNnPOyDo
— Patrick Moorhead #SixFiveSummit (@PatrickMoorhead) July 14, 2022
So many people conflate the original MacBook Air with the 2010 redesign. They are not even remotely the same.
— Parker Ortolani (@ParkerOrtolani) July 14, 2022
There are those who don't engage like that, others who do if but really badly and As Apple that's at the apex and refined the art to new levels.

Also, Apple told me it would keep me in mind for an M2 MacBook Air review unit. Narrator: didn't happen. But I will never shy away from simply reporting the facts regardless. I'm not for or against Apple. I have no agenda. I try to inform people of the facts.

The M2 MacBook Air will be my new go-to recommendation when family/friends ask which Mac to buy — unless they want to spend the absolute minimum possible, in which case my recommendation is Apple's refurbished M1 MacBook Air for $849, which is still a great value. https://t.co/VvQ1dOx4Hr
— Joe Rossignol (@rsgnl) July 14, 2022
Dave2D on the M2 MacBook Air SSD issue: “I think if they’re gonna have slower drive speeds on those entry-level models, they need to disclose that. It should be on the website…..Because that’s just information people need to know.”

here's the thing though before this turns into a big week-long controversy: if you regularly have intense workloads, you're not buying a MacBook Air. https://t.co/mtx0h0z5oM

Ok everybody, it's time to talk about the new M2 MacBook Air! First, here's the full review on @CNET, with performance charts. It does so much right, but also one thing I really don't like... 1/x https://t.co/TJcbGaSiHQ

Very non-Apple industrial design issue. But then again, different finishes are a bit new to Apple. I wonder if @ijustine's unit was a preproduction unit. $AAPL https://t.co/rgGpIqblxq

Interesting, to whom has @Apple given review units to, so far for free (did they need to return it? How does sponsorship like that work?)

Apple: "While benchmarks of the 256GB SSD may show a difference compared to the previous generation, the performance of these M2 based systems for real world activities are even faster."

This is vague. Sounds like Apple is just saying the M2 chip is faster *overall* as PR spin.
Yep. Apple avoiding bad press.

The M2 MacBook Air having no branding on it whatsoever makes me think they debated at some point internally whether or not to call it just “MacBook” and slot it between the M1 Air and the 14-inch Pro.
— Parker Ortolani (@ParkerOrtolani) July 14, 2022
Looks like Apple sent people the 512GB M2 MacBook Airs instead of 256GB ones, are they acknowledging that the Base Model has worse SSD Performance? 😂@VadimYuryev What're you guys thinking?
