A few idle thoughts on the Microsoft / $ATVI acquisition news:
— Eric Seufert (@eric_seufert) January 18, 2022
- We're clearly in the midst of an M&A arms race in gaming. What does Netflix buy? Who buys $EA?
- What does $MS do with King?
- Can MS make CoD exclusive to Xbox? How does this bolster its Game Pass business?
25M * $15/mo = gross annual revenue of 6.5% of the ActiBlizz acquisition cost.

This deal is about one thing and one thing only: The battle for the metaverse. It would catapult MSFT way ahead of Meta (formerly Facebook.) Will companies like Meta, Apple, Amazon + Alphabet go to DC to object? Can they do so given the scrutiny on them? https://t.co/1l3o5xeuKC

Holy shit this is huge in like.. every way. But Microsoft need to get rid of Kotick ASAP and implement a strict restructuring, and fix the systematic abuse issues within Activision Blizzard. https://t.co/Rb9wpN22wq

So, that Microsoft purchase of Activision Blizzard King huh?
— Laura Kate Dale (@LaurakBuzz) January 18, 2022
My main response -
What do the striking ABK workers think?
What steps will Microsoft implement to see change at the company?
Will Kotick face consequences?
Will this change monetisation / working practices?
Bobby’s ultimate goal (other than to get away with everything he did) was to turn Blizzard into another Activision studio cranking out yearly hits. Under Xbox, Blizzard may be able to regain some of its autonomy and fix some big problems. Maybe!
— Jason Schreier (@jasonschreier) January 18, 2022
I feel like a good start would be Microsoft stepping in to basically give the striking @ABetterABK workers what they are asking for. That would be a very good start on showing some intent to improve things.
